Our Early Childhood program educates children in PK-3, PK-4, and Kindergarten. The program is centered around the social and emotional development of each individual student through building responsibility and self-esteem in a loving and nurturing environment while building the foundation for academics and a love of learning. We do this through incorporating Play-Based-Learning Units throughout the year. This instruction is based on providing students with opportunities for child-led and open-ended play.
Learning is an exciting adventure in PreK3. We believe in fostering a nurturing environment that celebrates curiosity, creativity, and inclusion. Our hands-on, project-based approach encourages children to explore and engage with the world around them, while building essential problem-solving and teamwork skills. Through fine motor and sensory play, children strengthen their coordination, cognitive development, and emotional expression. Each day begins with a thoughtful Morning Meeting, where children come together to share, communicate, and connect with their peers, promoting inclusivity and social-emotional growth. Our program provides a safe, supportive space where every child’s voice is heard, and their potential is celebrated!
In our PreK-4 program, we ignite the joy of learning with a balanced approach that nurtures curiosity and fosters independence. Each day begins with a Morning Meeting, where students build strong social connections, practice communication skills, and set the tone for a day of exploration. We introduce literacy through a systematic approach to phonics and reading using the Fundations program, providing a solid foundation for early reading success. Our project-based learning approach immerses children in hands-on experiences that inspire them to take ownership of their learning. Through meaningful, real-world projects, students explore the world around them, develop problem-solving skills, and gain confidence as active participants in their educational journey. It's an exciting time to learn, grow, and discover in PreK 4!
Kindergarten is the year where reading skills are truly developed. Our students learn language, phonics, and letter formation through Wilson’s Fundations program and build the foundation for life-long literacy. In addition, they learn to recognize sight words and use the Fountas and Pinnell Guided Reading program to learn to read in small groups where the teachers can meet each child where they are. Kindergarten students learn basic math skills such as number sense, basic addition and subtraction, patterns, and shapes through the McGraw Hill My Math program. At Holy Name of Jesus, we also recognize the importance of play and hands-on learning at this age, and students engage in all types of learning in the classroom.
All Early Childhood students attend enrichment classes daily. Our enrichment program includes Art, Library, Music, Physical Education, and French. Kindergarten students also get the opportunity to start attending Theater.
